Ebola Virus Disease (EVD)

Ebola virus disease is a rare but severe and often life-threatening illness caused by the Ebola virus. It spreads through direct contact with the bodily fluids of an infected person or contaminated surfaces. Early symptoms include fever, fatigue, muscle pain, and sore throat, which can progress to vomiting, diarrhea, and internal and external bleeding. Because it can worsen quickly, Ebola requires immediate medical care and strict infection control to prevent its spread.

Outbreaks have primarily occurred in parts of Africa and can place immense strain on families, healthcare workers, and entire communities. Survivors may continue to experience physical and emotional challenges even after recovery. Despite its severity, improved medical care, early detection, and public health efforts have increased survival rates in recent years.

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” – Psalm 46:1

God of refuge,
be near to those facing serious and frightening illness.

In places where fear spreads quickly,
bring courage to the sick,
strength to those who care for them,
and protection to entire communities.

Watch over the doctors, nurses, and caregivers
who risk their lives to bring healing.
Give them wisdom, endurance, and safety in their work.

For those who are suffering,
bring comfort in pain,
hope in uncertainty,
and healing where it is needed most.

Lord, stand as a shield against the spread of illness,
and let Your presence bring peace
even in the most difficult moments. Amen.
