Complications of Stomach Surgery

Stomach surgeries, such as bariatric procedures like gastric sleeve surgery or gastric bypass surgery, can be life-changing and beneficial, but they also carry potential risks and complications. Some patients may experience issues such as infections, internal bleeding, or reactions to anesthesia shortly after surgery. Longer-term complications can include conditions like sleeve leak, where stomach contents leak into the abdomen, or marginal ulcer, which can cause pain and irritation at the surgical site. Other challenges may include nutrient deficiencies, digestive discomfort, or strictures (narrowing of the stomach or intestines). These complications can be physically and emotionally difficult, requiring ongoing medical care, patience, and support during recovery.

Heavenly Father,
We come before You with hearts full of trust, lifting up those who are suffering from complications after surgery. You are the Divine Healer, the source of all comfort and restoration.

Lord, ease their pain and calm their fears. Bring healing to their body where there is injury, especially in places affected by complications like leaks, ulcers, or infections. Guide the hands and wisdom of their doctors and caregivers so that they may provide the best care possible.

Grant them strength in moments of weakness, patience in recovery, and hope in uncertainty. Surround them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and remind them that they are never alone in their suffering.

May Your healing presence restore them fully body, mind, and spirit.
In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
